The Garden Folks!
to all of our friends and neighbors in and around Aransas County. We wish you all a Bright and Wonderful New Year.
The Garden Folks! Here is hoping each and ever one of you a Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year!!
The garden is looking nice. There are some tomatoes and cabbages needing to be picked. The onions and other greens could be picked as well. Remember we will need to start planning to build some more beds in January. They will need to be finished prior to February planting dates. Any one that has not sent in their 2012 gardening fee for the whole year needs to do so. Again have a Great Holiday. See you in the garden, Judy Seems we have all been busy in the hurriedness of the Christmas Holiday. I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year, and may the garden flourish in nature as it is supposed to. Connie

Judy It is 7 am and it looks like we escaped a hard freeze again. I showed 34 degrees as the low at my home. It should be warmer near the bay. Everyone have a great day. See you at the garden and Dec. 14. Judy
On this link you can read up on what the Farmer's Almanac says about Frost and how to protect your garden from the Frost and Freeze.
http://www.farmersalmanac.com/home-garden/2008/09/22/a-gardeners-guide-to-frost/ Using a heavy blanket to cover your plants, if it gets wet it will insulate the garden bed.
You can also use a light sheet and plastic to cover. If you use a sheet you need to use plastic to insulate from the cold. Remove promptly in the A.M. when the temperature has come up from freezing and the sun has come out, so that the plants don't cook under the plastic. Anchor them with something that can withstand the wind like bricks or rocks, etc. Cover your Garden Beds with a cotton sheet and then sheet of plastic or use a heavy blanket.
